2023’s Top and Bottom Full-Size SUVs

In actuality, there are a few more full-size luxury SUVs available than non-luxury models. The majority of manufacturers now build crossovers based on unibody cars rather than body-on-frame SUVs. The first manufacturers to implement the modification on a large scale were non-Americans. American automakers eventually adopted this strategy, although more slowly. For this reason, most non-luxury full-size SUV alternatives are American vehicles.

For families, full-size SUVs have replaced minivans as the vehicle of choice. We made an effort to account for this while assigning points, giving such elements somewhat more weight than characteristics intended just to be a reliable workhorse. By combining the evaluations for driving performance, standard amenities, design, and value, we rate all 15 full-size SUVs—both luxury and non-luxury—from best to worst.

14. Toyota Sequoia 2023

The second version of Sequoia, which was redesigned for 2023, has been in production for an astounding fifteen years. To be honest, the archaic style of the cabin is evident throughout. It won’t haul as much as rivals, has worse cabin materials, and gets worse gas economy than comparable Toyota cars. Although it has a plenty of capacity, we expect more from the Sequoia in order for it to be a respectable family vehicle.

13. Lexus LX in 2023

Although the third generation Lexus LX has been in production since 2007, it underwent a significant redesign in 2015. As a result, it doesn’t seem to be as outdated as one may assume. But this Lexus is marred by an annoying infotainment system. Additionally, rival vehicles handle better on paved areas and are more nimble than it is when it comes to off-roading. It does rank last in the class for load capacity among full-size SUVs.

12. Nissan Armada 2023

In 2021, the Nissan Armada had a minor redesign. Thankfully, compared to last year’s model, the middle stack seems more contemporary. The dark patterned plastic on the dash and center armrest has replaced the false plastic wood, which is a significant change. However, it still doesn’t seem luxurious for this price range. Although nothing in this class is particularly good, the Armada’s fuel efficiency is likewise subpar, and its load space is below average for a full-size SUV. Nonetheless, a variety of powerful engine alternatives are available.

11. Infiniti QX80 from 2023

The 2023 Infiniti QX80 has advantages, but it lags behind other models. It boasts some of the greatest load space and is among the more reasonably priced choices for a full-size luxury SUV. But compared to other full-size luxury SUVs, this one’s inside is not as opulent. Furthermore, you expect to have the newest and best tech available if you’re paying top bucks. This past year, the QX80 gained support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay!

10. Land Rover in 2023 Range Rover

A plug-in hybrid option was just offered to the Land Rover Range Rover. You can do brief errands around town or make a short commute with an EV’s 48-mile range without ever consuming any petrol. The smooth and competent riding experience is complemented by the luxurious cabin. However, don’t be fooled by the smoothness of paved roads. Off-road, the Range Rover feels equally at ease and confident. The fact that several rivals surpass it in terms of cargo space is one of the very few drawbacks.

9. Mercedes-Benz G-Class (2023)

When it comes to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, we really do mean luxury. The MSRP is just shy of an extremely exorbitant $139,900. Customers who pay such staggering amount get a really upscale cabin. Undoubtedly, it’s the finest in the class. Despite its lavish interior, the G-Class is surprisingly good off-road. The cost is undoubtedly one of the drawbacks. It makes it unattainable for almost everyone. This is a genuine gas guzzler if fuel efficiency is a concern for you.

8. Ford Expedition 2023

The Ford Expedition has strong engines and a roomy cabin with a simple but elegant interior. There is a ton of cargo room at the rear. The Expedition has dependability ratings that are above average as well. Depending on how much room they want, consumers may choose between a “Regular” and a “Max” option, much like with the Yukon and the Tahoe/Suburban. The normal choice is shorter than the Expedition Max by one foot. Additionally, it can haul more weight than the Yukon—roughly 800 pounds more. Its very rigid suspension and the ugly plastic that surrounds the interior are its drawbacks.

7. The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban

Along with its relatives the GMC Yukon and Tahoe, the Chevrolet Suburban underwent a thorough makeover for the 2021 model year. It will reappear in 2023 with a mostly identical look. The sole structural difference between the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban is a larger wheelbase. And why not get the biggest full-size SUV available if you’re in the market for one? It costs a little bit more than the Tahoe, but it also has a very roomy interior that can accommodate eight people. It has a smooth ride in addition to a powerful V8 engine. There is now a turbodiesel engine available. Additionally, the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban has a high dependability rating. The drawback is that confined urban areas might be difficult to maneuver through.

6. GMC Yukon 2023

This year, the 2023 Yukon seems completely new (just like its GM relatives). There are two variants of the Yukon: the standard Yukon, which has technical similarities with the Chevy Tahoe, and the Yukon XL, which is GMC’s counterpart of the Chevy Suburban. Naturally, choose the XL if cargo capacity is important to you. The three-row on the standard Yukon seems a tad small in contrast. Aside from that, GMC provides a luxurious interior and a strong suspension system for a comfortable ride. At the more costly, higher trims, the value argument is partially gone.

5. Lincoln Navigator 2023

The 2023 Lincoln Navigator’s stable and secure ride has propelled it to the top of our rankings. There is also a ton of room for passengers and freight. Regarding the inside, it is well designed without being too intricate. A plethora of conventional features are also available. Better still, the Navigator offers the highest towing capability in its class. The inexpensive price point is the icing on the cake, making it an excellent option for families looking to purchase.

4. Chevy Tahoe from 2023

The Chevrolet Tahoe is back. For the simple reason of being less expensive, the Tahoe edges out its GMC cousin. The cabin is somewhat less opulent, to be sure, but nevertheless. In essence, you’re getting a better deal on the same Yukon. The Tahoe’s strong V8 engine, simple infotainment system, and quiet ride are among of its best features. Unlike GMC, Chevy has two distinct nameplates for each wheelbase length. The Tahoe and the Suburban are identical in every other way.

3. Cadillac Escalade 2023

The Escalade, like its Chevrolet Tahoe sibling, is available in two lengths: normal and ESV (longer, like the Chevy Suburban). This makes it one of the roomiest cars available, and compared to certain competitors, it offers all that capacity for a (relatively) lower premium price. It rides well and has strong engines. The infotainment arrangement isn’t to our taste, and the interior quality is noticeably less luxurious for this class of vehicle. However, a fresh makeover was made in 2021.

2. The BMW X7 of 2023

The BMW X7 is the company’s first attempt at a full-size SUV in the American manner. It’s the biggest SUV that BMW produces, and it represents the German company well in its debut. Considering its size, it has excellent fuel efficiency. It should therefore come as no surprise that the X7 is equipped with a number of potent engines. It’s a feature that all BMW automobiles share. With its extensive array of technological and safety features, the interior is equally remarkable.

1. Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class (2023)

Compared to its G-Class sister, the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class of 2023 is much more cheap. Its inside is just as luxurious despite its cheaper price. Three roomy rows of chairs occupy the inside of this luxurious cabin, which has high-quality materials throughout. Enough space is available for the whole family. When drivers apply more pressure to the accelerator, powerful engines provide plenty of vigor, and precise handling only serves to improve the smooth ride.
